PETA barbecued a ‘dog’ in Trafalgar Square

If you wouldn’t eat a dog, why eat a pig? It might seem a bit of an odd question, but that is what PETA wanted people to consider when they handed out free samples from an unusual barbecue. Set up in Trafalgar Square, the animal rights’ group roasted a ‘dog’ above a sign reading ‘If You Wouldn’t Eat a Dog, Why Eat a Pig? Go Vegan’. OK, so we know eating a dog is far from vegan but you won’t be surprised that PETA’s meat was in fact seitan – a protein-rich meat substitute. The group’s hope was to get people to think that meat free barbecues can be just as tasty as meat-full ones while also consider that there isn’t much difference between a pig and a dog. PETA Director Elisa Allen said: ‘When it comes to the capacity to suffer and feel pain and fear, a dog is no different from a pig, a chicken, or a cow. ‘PETA is encouraging people who find the thought of eating dog distasteful to keep all animals off their plates and grills this bank-holiday weekend.’ | Metro News via IFTTT
