Shocking moment teen girl, 15, is wiped out by a driver as she crosses the road

UNSETTLING footage shows a teen girl be wiped out by a white van driver as she crosses the road… before getting up and walking away with just minor injuries. *** The 15-year-old was on her way to school on a rainy morning in Whitechurch, Bristol, when she was struck down by the vehicle. A 22-year-old man from Yate, Bristol, has appeared in court charged with dangerous driving, driving without a license and insurance, and failing to stop. The girl, who asked not to be named, was halfway across a road when the driver turned right and ploughed into her at roughly 7.30am last Friday. Shocking CCTV footage shows the schoolgirl being thrown into the air and rolling over the bonnet before falling to the ground. According to an eyewitness the driver “briefly stopped and pulled the screaming and crying girl to the pavement, before getting back into his van and driving off.” The driver was arrested after another onlooker took a photo of his van and dialled 999. The teenager escaped with minor cuts and bruises in the early morning collision. It is unclear if the driver who mowed her down was speeding in the 20mph zone. Residents on Hengrove Lane and Hengrove Avenue have been campaigning for traffic calming measures for many years to reduce speeding motorists. But requests for speed bumps or turning Hengrove Avenue into a one-way road to avoid ‘shortcut mentality’ have fallen on deaf ears.
