Bridge crashes onto M20 motorway, crushing vehicles below
A pedestrian bridge has collapsed on the M20, crushing vehicles below as stunned drivers look on. The walkway crashed down on top of lorries and other vehicles this afternoon. Shocking footage shows the collapsed bridge, which appears to have crushed the rear end of an articulated lorry. One person has been hurt but their injuries are not life-threatening, according to Kent Police. The M20 in Kent is closed between junctions 3 and 4 on the eastbound carriageway, Highways England said. Kent Fire and Rescue and police arrived on the scene around 12.10pm. Emergency services rushed to the scene where traffic is currently at a standstill. A spokesman for Ken Police said: ‘It is believed a lorry collided with a pedestrian bridge which has collapsed onto the carriageway below. ‘No people are believed to be trapped in the debris, however one person is believed to have suffered injuries, not reported to be life threatening at this time. ‘Police are treating this as a major incident and the M20 has been closed in both directions to allow this incident to be dealt with. Traffic will be heavier than usual.’ Witness, Sonny Gladdish, told the BBC he saw a digger impact with the bridge. Drivers, many of which are travelling for the Bank Holiday weekend, tweeted pictures of the disaster. | Metro News via IFTTT
