Dad dead and daughter, 2, critical after being swept to sea in Newquay
A two-year-old girl is fighting for her life after being swept out to sea in a tragedy which claimed her dad’s life. Members of the public looked on in horror as the family – a couple in their 30s and their toddler – were pulled out into the ocean from Fistral Beach in Newquay, Cornwall yesterday. Rescuers managed to pull all three out of the water. They carried out CPR on the dad before airlifting him to Treliske Hospital. Sadly, Falmouth Coastguard confirmed that he had died later that evening. The toddler is in the same hospital, struggling to survive after the traumatic accident. Her mother was also rescued and escaped with only minor injuries. She is also being treated in Treliske Hospital. The family have not been publicly named, as next of kin have not been informed and the father needs to be formally identified. A police spokesman told the Plymouth Herald: ‘The UK Coastguard received a 999 call at 5.20pm last night reporting that a family of two adults and one child had been washed into the sea off Fistral Beach and were in difficulty.
