Wayne Rooney announces he will retire from England after 2018 World Cup
Wayne Rooney has announced that he will retire from England duty after the 2018 World Cup. The Manchester United striker revealed his decision just hours after being kept on as England captain by Sam Allardyce. ‘Realistically I know myself that Russia will be my last opportunity to do anything with England. Hopefully I can end my time with England on a high,’ he said at St George’s Park. There has been uncertainty over whether Rooney would retain the England armband, particularly after their disastrous Euro 2016 campaign, however Sam Allardyce said it was a ‘easy decision’ to retain Rooney as skipper. Rooney’s decision means his last England game will be in Russia providing England qualify for the World Cup.He will do so as England’s record goal scorer – a title which he already owns and now has two years to add to. | Metro News via IFTTT
