Ancient lakes on Mars suggest the red planet could have hosted life for a BILLION years longer than we thought --- Researchers from the Smithsonian Institution in Washington found the wet period on Mars likely occurred between two and three billion years ago. This means the planet could have hosted microbial life for a billion years longer than we thought. The researchers made the discovery by dating 22 impact craters on the planet. Valleys much younger than well-known ancient valley networks on Mars are evident near the informally named 'Heart Lake' on Mars. via IFTTT
