Man killed daughter 'because he was jealous of attention she got for eye cancer'

A father has pleaded guilty to killing his daughter with a baseball bat. Ryan Lawrence, 25, killed his daughter Maddox, because he was jealous of the attention she received for surviving eye cancer. He admitted beating the 21-year-old to death before burning her body and dumping her remains in a fire pit in Onondago in Syracuse. Onondaga Country District Attorney Bil Fitzpatrick said: ‘Without going into too much detail, Ryan Lawrence’s statements allude to almost a sense of jealousy about the attention that this child was getting, as opposed to the attention that he was getting.’ Maddox’s body was found by police divers on February 21 around 36 hours after local authorities issued an alert about her disappearance. The toddler’s mother Morgan Lawrence told officers her husband was supposed to pick her up from work on the evening on February 20, but instead left the car and keys in the car park. Upon returning home Ms Lawrence found a note hinting Ryan might hurt Maddox and himself. She called police who triggered the amber alert for the missing toddler. After a tip off, officers tracked Ryan to Baldwinsville, around 10 miles away. He confessed and led police to his daughter’s remains. He is due to be sentenced next month and is facing a minimum of 25 years in prison. | Metro News via IFTTT
