Tiny island of Itbayat in the Philippines consumed by a typhoon
This satellite image shows the tiny island of Itbayat in the Philippines swallowed whole by a huge typhoon. Super Typhoon Meranti is the strongest storm 2016 has seen in 2016. The eye of the storm managed to completely surround Itbayat, an island just 32 square miles. Due to the intensity of the storm, it could be a while before the fate of Itbayat’s 3,000 residents and basic infrastructure is confirmed. Winds stronger than 215 miles per hour battered the tiny isle, which also took a hit from thunderstorms and heavy rain. Meranti, or Ferdie as it was called in the Philippines, is expected to push through south Taiwan before making its way to China. | Metro News via IFTTT
