The 16-year-old schoolgirl, who has not been identified, got her hair got caught in the large spinning ride while she posed for a scenic picture. But the force yanked her entire scalp off from her forehead. In what must be one of the most excruciating videos to watch on the internet, the clip shows the aftermath of the accident, with the scalped victim in shock. The horrific scene shows people consoling her while others try to free her – with the remainder of her long locks still stuck on the ride. Footage of the incident, which was taken outside a college in Baraut, a small city just over 40 miles north of Delhi, India, went viral after the incident was reported by Newscrunch, last month. The girl was eventually freed and is now recovering in hospital, according to reports. There have been reports of an increasing number of freak accidents involving selfies in India in recent years, compared to other countries. Last year, about half of the 27 reported “selfie-related” deaths around the world happened in the country, according to The Washington Post. In 2015, Indians taking selfies died while posing in front of an oncoming train, in a boat that tipped over at a picnic, on a cliff that gave way and crumbled into a 60-foot ravine and on the slippery edge of a scenic river canal.
