Pakistan oil tanker explosion leaves at least six dead and 200 trapped
OIL BLAST Pakistan oil tanker explosion leaves at least six dead and 200 trapped --- AT least six people have died and 200 are trapped after a massive oil tanker exploded in Pakistan. The blast triggered a massive fire that engulfed the area, leaving hundreds trapped inside the ship-breaking yard. Unconfirmed reports claim up to 10 people could have been killed by the explosion. Around 70 of those trapped inside are thought have been injured, with many suffering serious burns. It is thought the fire broke out in a dismantled oil tanker stationed in the yard, according to DawnNews. Eight explosions went off inside the tanker while workers were carrying out gas wielding work. More explosions are feared as the fire continues to engulf the yard. Firefighters are working to extinguish the fire - but only one fire engine is thought to be at the scene. The location is the world's third-largest ship-breaking yard and is located across a 10km beachfront in Gadani, about 50km northwest of Karachi. Rescue teams rushed from Karachi and nearby Balochistan to take the injured to hospital. An average of 100 ships is torn down in Gadani every year producing around one million tons of steel sold mostly domestically to the construction sector in Pakistan. | The Sun via IFTTT
