Away from the sporting arena, the Ryan Lochte ‘gunpoint robbery’ saga has been the biggest sideshow of the Rio Olympics. To recap the US swimmer had claimed that he and three other swimmers were the victims of a gunpoint robbery after a night out in Rio. However, a police investigation into the claim led to officials stating that the story was a ‘fabrication’ instead pointing the finger at the behaviour of the swimmers, which they say saw a bathroom trashed. Anyway, Lochte, a 12 times Olympic champion, took to Instagram today to apologise for his behaviour saying he should have been ‘more careful and candid’ in his remarks.
