Facebook apologises for ‘killing’ all its users

If you have a Facebook profile, there’s a strong possibility that the social media site killed you yesterday. Well, the good news, is that tech giant is feeling pretty bad about it. The technical glitch saw memorial notices put at the tops of user’s profiles saying something like: Those ‘killed off’ included founder Mark Zuckerberg. A Facebook spokesman told the BBC: ‘This was a terrible error that we have now fixed. We are very sorry that this happened.’ What is a memorialised profile? Facebook introduced the option to memorialise a profile in 2015 which allows a trusted friend or family member to take control of a user’s profile after they die. Once Facebook is notified of a user’s death, the profile is then memorialised. The designated trustee is able to post a message to appear at the top of the timeline as well as to respond to new friend requests and change the profile and cover photos. | Metro News via IFTTT
