Acid attack survivor Reshma Qureshi walks the runway at New York Fashion Week
When it comes to diversity, the range of models walking the runways at New York Fashion Week is still fairly lacking. So we happily welcome any model that doesn’t fit the super slim, white, blonde with perfect skin stereotype. But this particular model is even more applause-worthy. Two years ago, Reshma Qureshi was the victim of an acid attacks in India. She suffered severe burns to her face and lost her left eye. For a while after the attack, Reshma fell into depression and says she contemplated suicide. But her dedication to putting an end to the prevalence of acid attacks gave Reshma a new purpose. Reshma began to work with charity Make Love Not Scars to spread awareness of just how often acid attacks are happening around the world, provide support to victims, and campaign against the sale of acid. As part of her charity work, Reshma has also created beauty tutorials to help other acid attack survivors feel confident in their appearance again, and has appeared in beauty campaigns as a result. And this week, Reshma walked the runway at New York Fashion Week, opening the show for Indian designer Archana Kochhar. She wore a full-length white dress with printed panels, and looked stunning (obviously). | Metro News via IFTTT
